 Messed up turn

My latest turn has some stuff I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do. I have AI turned off but two techs I don't think I was working on have been researched and what's more over researched when I tend to only do one level at a time. It may be because I grabbed a ruin, maybe it went onto those techs for some reason. Did anyone else have aberant orders?

I forgot to mention that the communication channel to one of my neighbours has also now been lost, and that their flag has changed (I can see some of their units)

Edit: Actually on inspection I can see what's happened. My neighbour has gone and joined an alliance. Hopefully it works these days.

It is possible that you have had a Research Event. It's that exstenion to the Balance Mod we are using. Random events can cause research advances or setbacks. I was under the impression that it could only happen to techs already being researched, but I could be wrong.

I have not seen anything weird like that. My 1.79 patch is supposedly in QA though, so I should have it soon!

Now that I have run my turn, I did see that Ruin's can cause the behavior you described.

For all you noob's, you better check your systems for planets with ruins on them. As soon as you colonize them you'll get very nice research goodies.

I have had both ruins and research events this game so far. And yes, you can get "spontaneous" research success either in research areas you are already working on, or ones you have never even touched.

Nice.

However, letting the AI run your turn even once can definitely totally screw up your game. So watch out for that as well. I love the "scrap cargo" feature that scraps all your ships and units because they are "obsolete" because the AI decided to make a bunch of new ship designs. Hey nice, I always wanted to have to start over for no reason.
